Sometimes a boy has no one around to hug but himself, and if he's going to stand around hugging himself he may as well take a picture. That's my reasoning anyway :o)

I was quite glad to take this picture as well. A lot of people had caught sight of the dreamcatcher I had hanging around in my room since I was about fourteen in other pictures and presumed that I had some interest in Native American culture and spirituality, which was more or less true when I was fourteen. This picture was taken shortly after I had bought a crucifix to replace the dream catcher and hence I hoped I'd get less comments from kindergoth wannabe pagans :o)

It's quite a nice little crucifix as well, imported from Jerusalem with some holy earth stored behind glass in a little chamber. I'm not actually Christian, nor a spiritual person at all, but I do like the Crucifix as a moral symbol. It's hard to think of greater examples of self-sacrifice out of love and compassion for other people, in this case it is Christ taking the entire world's sins upon him.

It doesn't matter if it's true. Had I read it in a book of fiction I'd still have as much admiration for the idea of such an act, and would gladly still put a symbol of this fictional sacrifice on my wall.
